As a shy and introverted child, journaling became a refuge; a place where my feelings felt safe, seen and heard.

Like many Asian second-generation immigrants growing up in a foreign country, I navigated through life unconsciously burdened by ancestral traumas of war and patriarchy. 

I struggled to find my voice as a woman, as I felt their silent cries in the tremor of my throat. Perhaps this is why I reached for my journal. Words poured from my pen more at ease than it could slip from my lips, into a language I didn’t know I could speak. 

Throughout the years, I have cultivated a daily written practice and ritual that has helped me to interpret the power of our emotions that is always guiding us towards more self-love, forgiveness, compassion and self-discovery.

Instead of looking out into the world for answers, we must venture deep into our inner landscape through inquiry, awareness and language.

When we can heal ourselves, our words can heal the world.
